AGE: 71 • Neptune City
Carmine G. DeChiara, 71, of Neptune City, passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, after a brief illness. Well-known for his cheerful smile, beautiful blue eyes and sense of humor, he will be missed by so many. Born in Newark, he came to the Shore at a young age and fell in love with the area, settling here as an adult in his first career as a Neptune police officer, where he was known as "Nuch." He later became a lobsterman on the Big Red, where he enjoyed 24 years working with Marty Stillufsen, who was like a brother to him. After that, he joined the staff at Route 34 Landscaping Co., where he enjoyed many a summer. His favorite job was bartending in St. Thomas, where he spent 23 winters and had many friends. Carmine was a Freemason, a member of a local hunting club and a member of the Shark River Beach & Yacht Club.
He is survived by his loving wife, Renie; sister, Patricia DeChiara; daughters, Gail Shepard, Tracy Burton and Renee Bartels; sons, Jude DeChiara, Todd Bartels and Michael Bartels, several nieces and nephews, 13 wonderful grandchildren and many great friends who filled his heart with joy.
He was certainly greeted in heaven with a hearty "Nuch!" by his dear friend Pat Brema.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12 at Francioni, Taylor and Lopez Funeral Home, 1200 10th and Atkins avenues, Neptune. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13 at the funeral home, followed by interment at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls.
