Charles J. Biodrowicz age 91 of Lanoka Harbor, NJ died peacefully in his home on Dec. 10, 2013 with his family by his side.
Born in Lesko, Poland, Charles left his native country in 1940. He then joined the US Merchant Marines and served in the Atlantic, Mediterranean Middle East and Pacific War Zones before enlisting in the US Navy in 1945. In 1992, at the age of 88, he was awarded a Medal from the Russian Government for his participation in the Allied convoys carrying supplies to Murmansk and Archangel during World War II.
Charles stayed in the Merchant Marines until the 1950,s. Wanting to spend more time with his family Charles started and successfully operated The Biodrowicz Painting and Paperhanging Company in Northern NJ. He retired to Lanoka Harbor in 1974.He was a proud member of the American Legion Post No. 517, Forked River, VFW Post 9503, Bayville, NJ and Dennis Rowland Chapter of the American Merchant Marines Veterans Eastern Branch, Brick, NJ.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife Helen (Modzelewski). Surviving are his two
daughters Dorothy Tamas and her husband Peter of Barnegat NJ and Irene Frederick and her husband Steven of Lanoka Harbor, NJ, his three grandchildren Christine Zimmermann and her husband Kurt of Durham Ct., Matthew Frederick of Forked River, NJ and Amanda Frederick of Lacey, NJ and one great granddaughter Sophie Zimmermann of Durham Ct.
Relatives and friends may arrive 11 am Monday December 16, 2013, at the Layton's Home For Funerals, Forked River, NJ A funeral service will be held at 12 noon at the funeral home..Interment with military honors will follow at The Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown.
