AGE: 88 • Bradley Beach

Chief Eugene T. Myles (Ret.), 88, of Bradley Beach, passed away at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014. Chief Myles was born and raised in Neptune, and had lived in Bradley Beach for most of his life. He was a graduate of St. Rose High School, and served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He joined the Bradley Beach Police Department in 1951, and was promoted through the ranks, until being appointed Chief of Police in 1972. He served as Chief until his retirement in 1987. He also served his community as a Firefighter with the Bradley Beach Fire Department. He was a member of the Monmouth County, State and International Police Chiefs Associations, as well as the Knights of Columbus.

Chief Myles was predeceased by his beloved wife of 38 years, Eleanor Patricia (nee Carr) in 1987, as well as by his daughter, Patricia Myles, in 1997. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Kevin and Karen Myles of Walton, NY, Richard and Vibien Myles of Wall, and Kathleen Myles and Larry Wigbels of Delaware. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sean, Brian, Erica, Patrick, Michelle, Christopher, Dominick and Haley, and a great-granddaughter, Adelaide. Chief Myles will also be missed by his longtime companion, Lillian Goldenberg, as well as other relatives and friends.

Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014 at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2014 at Church of the Ascension, Bradley Beach, followed by interment at St. Catharine's Cemetery, Wall.
