AGE: 87 • Long Branch

Edward J. Acerra, 87, of Long Branch died peacefully on Wednesday January 15, 2014. Born in Long Branch he was a lifelong resident. Eddie was the last member of the famous Acerra Brothers Baseball Team; the team was honored at the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame in 1997. The Acerra Brothers team won the Long Branch City League Championship for ten consecutive years and was also inducted into the Long Branch High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Eddie was a lifetime member of the Long Branch IAMA and the Long Branch Elk BPOE Lodge 742. He worked for the city of Long Branch for 41 years. Eddie loved playing cards at the Elks, going to Atlantic City and dancing. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII.

He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Betty. Surviving is his sister, Frances Christopher of West Long Branch; numerous nieces and nephews and his loving and caring companion Nancy Cuoco.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 from 1:00 until the time of the funeral service at 2:30 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave., (corner of Third Ave.), Long Branch. Entombment will follow at Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
