Edward Z. Strzalkowski, 89, of Brick, NJ passed away peacefully on Friday, October 18, 2013 at the Lyons Campus of the Veterans Affairs New Jersey Health Care Facility, Lyons, NJ. Serving in the US Army during WWII from 1943-1945, as an infantryman, he was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Upon his return from Military Service he started his railroad employment career with REA Express. He then transferred to work for Conrail then Amtrak finally to NJ Transit ending his lifelong railroad relationship by retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Railroad Workers Union, a member of the Order of the Purple Heart, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Strzalkowski also enjoyed tinkering with automobiles, viewing western movies, traveling to Atlantic City to "play the slots" as well as watching his two grandsons grow up to be fine young men. Ed was born, raised and lived in Jersey City maintained a summer residence in Beach Haven West until finally relocating to Seaview Village in Brick 5 years ago.
Mr. Strzalkowski was preceded in death by his parents, John and Viola nee Szarwinski; his beloved wife Dorothy nee Batho; 4 brothers and 5 sisters. Surviving are his 2 sons, John E. Strzalkowski his wife Janet and their son Jack of Brielle, NJ; Edward J. Strzalkowski his wife Kathleen and their son Jason of Brick, NJ; 2 daughters, Victoria A. Strzalkowski of Brick, NJ and Sharon Loveland and her husband Kenneth of Maui, HI.
Visiting will be on Tuesday from 6-9 pm at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, in Brick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, 11AM at St. Peter's RC Church in Point Pleasant Beach. Interment with his wife Dorothy will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Disabled American Veterans, 135 West Hanover Street, Trenton, NJ 08618.
