Edwin Eric Osback Sr., of Whiting, passed away on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on Aug. 29, 1926 in Lyndhurst to Oscar W. and Minnie L. Osback, he and his wife resided in Fair Lawn for 30 years before moving to Whiting in 1981. Mr. Osback was a carpenter with John Johanson Company in Rutherford, where he became owner. After retiring from the company, he was employed with the New Jersey Boy's School in Jamesburg for ten years and then was a custodian with Crestwood Village One in Whiting for 10 years.
A proud World War II Navy veteran serving from 1944-1946 mainly in Guam, he received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal, the American Theater Medal, the Victory Medal and the Naval Unit Citation Ribbon and was a member of V.F.W. Post 9503 of Bayville. An active member of his community, he was proud to be a dedicated volunteer firefighter with Fair Lawn Fire Department Company #3, Scoutmaster of Troop 60, member of Master Masonic Club Adoniram Lodge #80 F. & A.M. of Lyndhurst, Polish American Club of Lakehurst, Ocean County Friends of the Library and Redeemer Lutheran Church of Manchester.
Beloved husband of 54 years of the late Orlean F. (Pinto) Osback. Loving and devoted father of Linda Tredway and husband Robert of Heber Springs, AR, Karen Zawora and husband John of Fredericksburg, VA, Scott Osback and wife Laurie of Fair Lawn and the late Edwin E. Osback, Jr. Cherished grandfather of Jennifer Tredway of Dallas, TX, Abigail Miller of Warwick, RI, Jeffrey Tredway of Memphis, TN, Amanda Zawora of San Diego, CA, Jack Zawora of Jersey City, NJ and Kelly, Tracy, Katie and Kevin Osback of Fair Lawn. Dear brother of the late Theodore O. Osback, Sr. and surviving spouse Dorothy of Lanoka Harbor and the late Ruth Osback, Winifred Mandel and Florence Plarre. Dear brother-in-law of Audrey Paterson of Saylorsburg, PA.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn. A funeral service is planned for 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2013 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 22-15 Broadway, Fair Lawn. Interment will follow at Brigadier General William C.
