George LeMar Thompson

AGE: 85 • Wanamassa

George LeMar Thompson, 85, of Wanamassa, passed away Monday, June 9, 2014, in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Long Branch, George was a lifelong resident of Wanamassa. He was a graduate of Asbury Park High School and earned his degree in Electronic Engineering from MIT. He was a full Professor at Rochester Institute of Technology. From when he was a boy, LeMar and his father started a club that raced remote control boats, which were handmade, on Sunset Lake. LeMar served in the Army during the Korean War as a Specialist Third Class. He enjoyed sports, creating photos and spread sheets on his computer, but most of all he enjoyed being with his friends and family. He also enjoyed going to Monmouth Park with his group of friends he called the "Track Pack".

LeMar was predeceased by his parents, George and Esther Louise Thompson and his beloved sister, Anna Jane Sullivan. He is survived by his nieces, Lorraine Ballard, Sonoma, CA and Sharon Sullivan, Anchorage, Alaska; a great-niece, Christina Ballard, Petaluma, California and his cousins, Peter Thompson, Bradley Beach, Elizabeth Diito, Pt. Pleasant and Ruth Baxter, Maryland. Visitation will be from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 20 in Buckley Funeral Home, 509 Second Ave., Asbury Park. A service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be private in Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls.
