Irving H. Kaplan

AGE: 99 • Formerly of Freehold

Irving H. Kaplan was born January 29, 1915 in the Bronx, N.Y. to Samuel and Carrie Kaplan. He spent his early years in Englishtown, N.J. before moving back to the Bronx. In 1930 he and his family moved back to Englishtown. He was a 1934 Graduate of Freehold High School and a 1936 graduate of Monmouth College.

In 1940 he attended Newark School of Law at night and worked in the publicity department of Twentieth Century Fox in New York City by day. In January of 1941 he enlisted in the army and served with the 112TH Field Artillery (mounted) of the New Jersey National Guard. Upon his discharge from the army he spent the balance of the war as an aircraft inspector at Eastern Aircraft in Trenton. After the war he and his brothers Nathan and William and his brother-in-law Nathan Koenig founded Monmouth Merchandising Company, Inc, In Freehold, where he worked until his retirement in March of 1984. Irving was a past president of Congregation Augudath Achim of Freehold, served several terms as post commander of Oglansky-Jackson post of the Jewish War Veterans and served as chief Adjutant to the state commander. Irving was also long time secretary for the Freehold Hebrew Benefit Society.

Irving was predeceased by his parents Samuel and Carrie as well as his sister Norma, Brothers William and Nathan and his brother-in-law Nathan Koenig. He is survived by his children and their spouses Murray and Ellen of Manalapan, Francine Kaplan and her husband Mark Diamond of Atlanta, Ga. and Sandy and Jeffry Satten of Howell his sister Pearl Koenig of Baltimore, Md. and his grandchildren Lissa Kaplan, Brian Kaplan, Jamie Diamond, Isaac and Jennifer Satten and Shayn Satten.
