James J. (Jim) Rooney, 84, of Wall, previously of East Brunswick, died peacefully in his home on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, surrounded by his immediate family. Born in New York City in the borough of Staten Island, Jim was a graduate of Fordham University and received his Masters Degree in Business Administration, at New York University (NYU). Jim served in the United States Army for two years and was honorably discharged.

Jim was the consummate salesman who loved being surrounded by family, friends, work associates, and people in general. He retired from the Prudential Insurance Company and enjoyed his retirement years wintering in Naples Florida and enjoying the summer/fall seasons fishing along the Jersey Shore.

He was predeceased by his parents, Theodore and Edith Rooney(neeWard) as well as his daughter, Eileen Ann; and brother, Edward. He is survived by his wife and the love of his life for 58 years, Mary (Marion) P. Rooney (neeF itzpatrick); his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Beth-Ann Rooney of Monmouth Beach, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Jamie Elizabeth, and Mary-Kathryn Rooney, both of Monmouth Beach. He is also survived by his nieces and nephew, Maureen Naples (Holmdel), Christine Dietrich (Aberdeen), John Harrington (Aberdeen), and Peggy-Ann Walsh (Long Branch).

Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Sept. 8, 2013 at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35, Wall. A Mass of the Christian Burial will celebrate Jim's life at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2013 at St. Margaret Church in Spring Lake. Entombment will follow at St. Catharine Cemetery, Wall.
