Jay Behringer Goerk

AGE: 87 • Lakewood

Jay Behringer Goerk, 87, Lakewood, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2014. Beloved husband of 65 years to Coralie. He was raised in Maplewood, where he was an Eagle Scout and graduate of Columbia HS. He earned his BA at Colgate University and was a member of DKE. He served twice in the U.S. Navy during WW II and Korea. He enjoyed a long and successful sales and marketing career in the food industry working at Procter & Gamble, Pepperidge Farms, Lipton Tea, Central Soya and Abbott Dairies where he was president. In retirement, he pursued his passion for painting and for golf. His painting of the 10th hole hangs in the locker room of the Spring Lake Golf Club where he was a longtime member. He was a Civil War buff who walked the battlefields many times. He derived great satisfaction teaching a course in Marketing at Monmouth University. His family learned to share his love of Duke Ellington, hanging out on the beach, and sharing cocktails on the patio. He will be missed by his wife and their four children, sons Jay Jr., David and Roger and his wife Adriana and daughter Jennifer and her husband Peter Lyden; and three grandchildren, Peter, Gus and Reagan.
