AGE: 82 • Union Beach

Joan M. Sodon, 82, of Union Beach, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, at Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel. She was born Joan Muriel Thomas on June 20, 1932 in Union Beach, where she has resided for her entire life. On June 14, 1952, Joan and her husband Edward were married at the Congregation Church in Union Beach and began their life together. Throughout Joan's life, she worked hard, whether it was founding the Raritan Road Runners Motorcycle Club, or at work at Sears Catalog Sales in Middletown. She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Anna (Halligan) Thomas; her sister, Emma McIntyre and her brothers, Charles Thomas, Robert Thomas Sr., Neil Kenneth Thomas, James Everett Thomas and Russell Laurence Thomas. Joan is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Edward R. Sodon; her loving son, Richard E. Sodon and his wife Sharon of West Milford; her dear sister, Carolyn Van Brunt; her cherished grandchildren, Laura Sodon and Kaitlin Sodon, along with many adored nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She will be sadly missed, but never forgotten. Family and friends are invited to visit from 3 to 5 p.m. & 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2014 and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday morning, Aug. 30 at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 3269 State Rt. 35 N, Hazlet. Prayer service at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30 at the funeral home. Entombment, Fairview Cemetery, Middletown.
