John Barry Bonner, 67, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Old Bridge. Born in Bayonne, he lived in Cranford since 1976. Mr. Bonner had been a corporate banker for many years before spending 10 years as a special education teacher for the Elizabeth Public Schools and then retiring in 2012. He was a graduate of St. Peter's College, had a Masters degree in Banking from Northwestern University and earned an MBA from Wagner College. He had been the treasurer on the board of the Cerebral Palsy League in Cranford where both his son and his grandson attend programs. A devoted Giants fan, he was also an avid golfer and enjoyed a pursuit of an 'Endless Summer' at Avon by the Sea.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Margaret and by his parents, John and Anne Bonner. Surviving are 3 devoted children, Kerry O'Donnell (Jason), Ellen O'Donnell (Jim), and Brian Bonner; 5 beloved grandchildren, Maggie, Caroline, Liam, Jack, and Patrick; 2 sisters, Elizabeth Ruane and Maryellen Bernaiche; a brother, Robert; his companion, Noel Ruane; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 13 at the Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Ave. West in Cranford. Mass of Christian Burial 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 14 at St. Michael's Church, Cranford. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cerebral Palsy League, 61 Myrtle St., Cranford, NJ 07016.
