John Katon

AGE: 87 • Cliffwood Beach

John Katon, 87, of Cliffwood Beach, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Friday February 21st, 2014 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel, NJ. John was Born in Franklin, NJ and lived in Elizabeth before moving to Cliffwood Beach 52 years ago. John proudly served his county as a Gunners Mate 2nd class in the United States Navy during WWII aboard USS LCI-G 69 and 23 in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign. He was a foundry worker for Cooper Alloy Metal and Molding in Hillside for many years. John was a wonderful father and grandfather and great grandfather who loved his family very much, he was a dedicated NY Giant Fan and an avid fisherman and after his retirement he spent many days fishing in Keyport. John will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

John is predeceased by his beloved wife, Josephine Katon; his parents, Harry and Mary Katon; brothers, Michael Popowniak and Milton Popowiak; and a sister, Helen Steele. He is survived by his loving children, John Katon and his wife Linda of Naples, FL, Harry Katon and his wife Vita of Jackson, Jean Steidle and her husband Keith of Aberdeen, and Bella Zimmermann and her husband Joe of Jackson; grandchildren, Michael Katon and his wife Tammy of PA, Dawn Abramo and her husband Frank of FL, Harry Katon Jr. of Manchester, Jody Davis and her husband Mike of Little Egg Harbor, Keith Steidle and his wife Whitney of Flemington, Jason Steidle and his wife Donna of PA, Joey Zimmermann and Jessica Zimmermann, both of Jackson; great grandchildren, Taylor and Frankie Abramo, Molly Katon, Michael and Jennie Davis, Jason, Faith and Hailey Steidle, and Andrew and Trevor Steidle.

Family and friends are invited Tuesday February 25th, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ 07735; and Wednesday 8:30AM at the funeral home, with a 9:15AM Mass at St. Joseph RC Church, Keyport.
