Joseph T Hancock, 89 of Manchester died unexpectedly on Tuesday April 29, 2014 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II from 1942-1943. He was a Paterson police officer for 5years while attaining his BA degree from Rutgers University. He taught middle school in North Plainfield while earning his Master's Degree in Education and then worked as Principal for the Metuchen School District for 5 years and received his Doctorate in Education from Rutgers also. He then worked for Kean University for 25 years as a Professor before retiring in 1985. In his retirement he worked for the Matawan School District as an Assistant Superintendent and then the NJ Association of School Administration for 20 years as the Legislative Liaison. Born in Paterson he resided in Manchester from 1979-2000 and then Vineland for 13 years before returning to Manchester 1 year ago. He enjoyed breeding & showing Airedale Terriers and was president of the Mid-Jersey Airedale Terrier Club. He is predeceased by his son Stephen J in 2007. Surviving is his wife of 32 years, Diane Ballard Hancock, sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas F &Deborah of Toms River, David & Janet of Edison and daughter, Mary Beth Fresalone &husband Tony of Kendall Park, and 5 grandchildren, Jennifer, Jonathan, Meagan, Thomas and Tony and 1 great grandchild. Visitation is Saturday 1-5 pm with a 3 pm service at Oliverie Funeral Home 2925 Ridgeway Rd Manchester.
