Leonard Gordon Jr., of Tinton Falls, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at the age of 83. He was born April 6, 1930 in Atlanta, GA to Leonard Gordon Sr. and Josephine Bettis Gordon. He spent his early childhood in Hempstead, NY and Silver Springs, MD later moving to Atlanta, GA. He graduated from North Fulton High School where he played football like his Dad, who played for the University of Georgia.

Leonard attended Georgia Tech with a major in aeronautics for one year then graduated from Emory University in 1953 as a pre-med student with a BA in science and math. He was also a member of the Emory University tennis team and the SAE Fraternity. He was accepted at the Naval OCS, Newport, RI in 1954 and commissioned Ensign in June 1954. He went through flight training at Pensacola and Corpus Christi for 15 months and was awarded his wings in August of 1955. He was then stationed in N.A.S. Norfolk for 3 years and a carrier based anti-submarine warfare command. Leonard was accepted at UGA Medical School in 1957 but declined. He was a stock broker with Courts & Co. Investment Bankers in Atlanta from 1958 to 1961. He was a pilot in the Naval Reserves for 6 years then joined Lockheed-Georgia in sales in 1962 where he was responsible for C-130 sales to USN, USMC and National Science Foundation. Over a 10 year period he recorded sales of 29 new aircraft and a major mod program valued at $500 million. He was responsible for congressional and Pentagon liason USN Lockheed/Collins classified program. After retiring from Lockheed in 1988, Leonard joined his wife in Real Estate with Northside Realty later sold to Coldwell Banker. Leonard was a 50 year member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Atlanta, GA and recently affiliated with St. George's Episcopal Church in Rumson. He was a longtime member of the Atlanta Athletic Club and the Polo, Golf and Country Club. He was a member of the Buckhead Boys Club. He enjoyed golf, tennis, boating and football. He and his wife were two of a kind being 44 year season ticket holders of the Atlanta Falcons. They enjoyed the 1998 superbowl!

Leonard is survived by his wife, June; son, Leonard Gordon III; and daughter, Debbie Memmott. Debbie and her husband David have six children, Dave, Chapin, Carson, Chase, Cooper and Colton residing in Rumson. Also surviving is a brother, Rev. Robert W. Gordon of Shreveport, LA and a sister, Betty Gill of Greensboro, GA.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11 at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank. A funeral service will take place 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 12 at St. Georges by the River Episcopal Church, Rumson. Interment to follow at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
