Mike Arnone, age 86, of Manchester died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 at home. Mike was born in Raritan, lived over 50 years in Point Pleasant before moving to Manchester 15 years ago. Mike had many careers. He was an acid waste salesman for Sinclair Oil many years ago before becoming a salesman for Corning which he retired from in the 1970's. He then opened Mikes Clam Bar on the Pt. Pleasant Beach Boardwalk. From there he opened Mike's Pizza in South Seaside Park, and then he was the owner of Mikes Deli in Wall Twsp. He also worked as a toll taker on the N.J. Parkway which he retired from in 1996. Since then he has been a legislative aid for the 10th District since 2001 until the present. Mike was a graduate of Somerville High School in the 1940's. He played guard for Princeton University and served honorably in the U.S. Army. He attended special classes at Kean University and had worked as a lifeguard at Pt. Pleasant Beach. Mr. Arnone was a member of St. Dominic's R.C. Church in Brick and was the first coach for Point Pleasant Pop Warner Football. He was Vice President for the Jersey Shore Football League for 5 years. In the 1960's he was an assistant Coach for the Point Pleasant Beach High School Football Team. He was a member of the Pt. Pleasant Elks 1698 and enjoyed watching football and collecting Lionel Trains and going to the Horse Track.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, John and Rose Leggio Arnone, and his son, Paul in 1988. Surviving are his wife, the former Joanne Hamill Arnone; his son, Christopher of Toms River; his daughter, Debra LaBarre and her husband Timothy of Brick; his sister, Joanne Novak of Fla.; 3 grandchildren, Timothy, Ryan and Brittney. Also surviving is his niece, Linda Novak and her partner Kelly of Ca.; his nephews, Greg Novak and his wife Judy of Hillsboro and Michael D'Angelo of Pt. Pl. and his sister-in-law, Carol D'Angelo of Brick.
Viewing hours will be held on Friday from 3:00 to 7:00pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Hwy. 88, Brick. A Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday 9:00 am in St. Dominic's R.C. Church in Brick. Burial will follow in St. Catharines Cemetery, Wall Twsp. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Paul E, Arnone Memorial Scholarship Fund, 11 Tuscany Circle, Manchester, NJ 08759.
