Nicholas Ciavatta, 79, of Toms River, formerly of Ocean Grove, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013 at Manor by the Sea, Ocean Grove. Nicholas owned and operated Ciavatta & Sons Landscaping in South Orange and Morningstar Painting in Ocean Grove. He was an employer and mentor to many local high school and college students. Nick was truly a genuine person who touched many lives. He was a man of great faith and kindness and was very active in his church, often helping elderly, raking leaves and planting flowers for residents in his retirement community. Mr. Ciavatta served with the US Army during the Korean War. He and his wife, Rosemary, were the former owners of the Honeysuckle Hotel in Ocean Grove. Born and raised in South Orange, he lived in Ocean Grove before moving to Toms River.
He was predeceased by his wife, Rosemary in 2008. Surviving are his sons, Nick, Gerard and Chris and his grandchildren, Ashley, Christopher, Jack and Michael.
Relatives and friends may call on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM and Friday from 2 PM with funeral services beginning at 4:00 PM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove.
