Richard C. Campbell, 90, of Manasquan, died peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at his home with his family at his side. Born in Hackensack, he was raised in Maplewood attending Columbia High School. He was a U.S. Navy pilot in World War II and was stationed in the Pacific on the USS Ticonderoga receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross. He also served in the Korean Conflict. Richard received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Newark College of Engineering.
Mr. Campbell was Vice President of International Sales for M&T Chemicals in Rahway for 30 years before retiring. He lived in Springfield, NJ and Mt. Prospect, IL before settling in Wall Twp. A true American and patriot, Richard loved life, family and country. His passions included golf, reading, history, business, politics and spending time with family.
Mr. Campbell was predeceased by his brother, Clarendon (Bud) Campbell and is survived by his wife, Lois (nee Fitzsimmons) and his 2 sons, Richard L. & his wife Patricia of Wall, and Thomas C. & his wife Penny of Stirling; his sister, Betty Holmes of Neptune; 4 grandchildren, Christopher, Sarah Campbell Phelan, James & Ellie and 1 great-grandchild, Declan Phelan.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013 at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South St., Manasquan. Funeral services will follow at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2013 at the funeral home with a 10:30 a.m. commital service at the Brigadier General Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown.
