Robert George Scharpnick, 66, of Bradley Beach, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at home with his family by his side. He was born in Newark and has lived in Bradley Beach for the last 25 years. He worked for General Motors before being drafted into the U.S. Army where he served as a Sgt. during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, Robert graduated from Lincoln Tech and later worked as an Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Serviceman for Tomlinson Refrigeration in Elizabeth and then for Bailey Refrigeration in Avenel. An avid outdoorsman, Robert loved fishing and hunting and was also a member of the Shark River Beach and Yacht Club.
He is survived by his loving children, Robert Scharpnick of Greenbrook; and his daughter, Carrie Scharpnick of Elizabeth, as well as his brother, Richard Scharpnick of Barnegat and very close cousins.
Friends and family are invited to visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013 at the Ely Funeral Home, Neptune. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at St. Genevieve Church, 200 Monmouth Road, Elizabeth, NJ 07208, followed by the interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
