Robert W. Temple, 61, of Neptune City, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, surrounded by family and friends after a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Newport, R.I. on January 4, 1953. Living in Neptune City for the majority of his life. Robert (Bob) went to Woodrow Wilson School and graduated from Neptune High School in 1971. He graduated from Richard Stockton College in 1976. Bob was a member of the West Grove United Methodist Church. To say he was an active member of his community would be an understatement. Bob was a member and a past captain of the Neptune City First Aid Squad and a partner of Stat Ambulance. He has been a volunteer firefighter with United Fire Company #1, Neptune City for 38 years. Being chief in 1991 and assistant chief at the time of his death. He was a fire inspector with Neptune City, member of the Neptune City Office of Emergency Management and a member of the A.N.S.W.E.R.S team. Bob bowled in the South Monmouth County Fire Chief's Association and Bowling League. He was also a member of the Washington Fire Company, Ocean Grove and a former volunteer for the Ocean Grove Citizens Patrol. Bob served on the Neptune City Board of Education for 19 years, serving as president on the board for some time. Bob was also a volunteer for the Neptune Township's Red and Black Booster Club. He worked at the Asbury Park Press (now known as Gannett Publishing), both in the Neptune and Freehold offices, for 33 years.

He was deeply loved by his friends and family. Known throughout the community as an amazing son, brother, husband, father, friend, and firefighter. Bob often joked he would receive an award from the community for welcoming all the local youth into his house many days and nights.

Robert is predeceased by his father, Edward B. Temple; grandparents, Charles and Laura Temple and Sophie Hulse. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Gail Temple (Miller); his daughters and their spouses, Danielle Davis (Temple) and Clint Davis and Kyleigh Wristbridge (Temple) and Matthew Wristbridge; his mother, Ruth Temple (Hulse); his sisters and their spouses, Debbie and Phil DeRosa and Holly and Bruce Johnson; his mother-in law, Margaret Miller; brother-in-law and sister-in-law and their spouses, Richard and Toni Miller and Lois and Steve Hillwig; many nieces, a nephew, great nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles, and cousins; life friends of Larry and Naomi Sauer and their sons Larry and Stephen.

His joys were found being surrounded by his friends and family, watching and enjoying weather, anything to do with the firefighters, and many vacations to the Poconos, Key West and Sanibel Island.

Family will receive friends on Sunday from 4-8pm, with a Fireman's service at 7pm, at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall Township. A Funeral Service will be held Monday 11am at the funeral home; followed by an interment service at Monmouth Memorial Park, Neptune. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the United Fire Company #1, Neptune City, the Neptune City First Aid, or the Washington Fire Company, Ocean Grove.
