Roslyn Brickman Gnatt

AGE: 84 • Manalapan

Roslyn Brickman Gnatt, 84, resident of Manalapan, N.J., passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2013, while at home in the company of her beloved and devoted family. Born on February 14, 1929, Roslyn moved to Manalapan with her immediate family in 1969, where she lived for the remainder of her years. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Abner Murray Gnatt, R.ph., CMR for A.H. Robins Company, Inc., in June of 1986. Roslyn began her career as a social worker and later a teacher in inner city Brooklyn. She taught for Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District, earning a service award for completion of twenty years of service on June 7, 1988. In July of 1976, Roslyn received a Supervisor/Principal Certification from the New Jersey Department of Education. As a teacher, Roslyn's training, skill, ability and dedication were unsurpassed. She graduated from New York University and held two Master of Arts Degrees - one from Bank Street College of Education and one from Kean College of New Jersey, presented in June of 1977. Her expertise was in reading education, and she was well-known and widely respected in the community, where she tutored and consulted in reading education after her retirement. As stated on a Teacher Recognition plaque given to Roslyn by a former student, "I'LL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU! FOR YOUR KINDNESS-UNDERSTANDING-MAKING LEARNING FUN-MOTIVATION-DEDICATION!" Roslyn possessed a true love of learning, opera and family. After her retirement, she continued her constant quest for knowledge and understanding the world by doing some well-deserved traveling, in the U.S. and abroad, and by dedicating herself to community service. She was a volunteer for the Princeton chapter of Reading/Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic, a member of the Manalapan Township Community Response Team, volunteer for the Monmouth County Board of Elections and member of the Marlboro Jewish Center.

Roslyn is survived by her beloved and devoted family: daughters, Andrea Kahn, M.D. and Deborah Gnatt Levy, Esq., Andrea's husband, Fred Kahn, M.D. and children, Adam Daniel Kahn, Joshua Kahn and Ethan Kahn; and Deborah's husband, Robert E. Levy, Esq. and daughter Abigail Rose Levy and step-grandchildren Rebecca Michele Mora and her husband Miguel, and Anna Micaela Levy.

Funeral Services and burial are Tuesday 1PM at New Montefiore Cemetery, Pinelawn, Long Island, New York followed by a period of mourning at the home of Deborah Gnatt and Robert Levy on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 12 and 13. The family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to the United Jewish Appeal. Funeral arrangements by Orland's Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing, NJ.
