Theresa (TC) Nerney Melfi

AGE: 48 • Keansburg

Theresa Melfi, 48, of Keansburg, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, after a courageous two year battle with bone cancer. Born and raised in Perth Amboy, she attended Most Holy Rosary grammar school and graduated from Perth Amboy High School in 1983, where she was voted "Most Athletic"! She was a track star capturing Middlesex County and All State Honors and thirty-one years later, she still holds school records!

After graduating from high school, she attended Trenton State College (College Of New Jersey) and ran track for the Lions. She started her professional career as a New York City Police officer, until relocating to Red Bank, New Jersey where she was employed at Russell Stanley, as a billing and collections coordinator. In 1996, she wed the love of her life, William Melfi and then took on her favorite job of wife and mother. Her daughter Annmarie was born in 1998. She ventured back into the employment field as the supervisor of housekeeping at Bayside Nursing & Rehab Center, Keansburg, NJ.

She was predeceased by her father Neal Nerney, Mother-in-law Catherine Melfi and brother-in-law Joseph (Bunky) Melfi. She is survived by husband William Melfi, daughter Annmarie (home), Step-son William Melfi and wife Nichole, Brick, NJ, Mother Elba Nerney, Middletown, NJ, Brothers: Jim Nerney and his wife Peggy, Middletown, NJ, Patrick Nerney and his wife Stephanie, Ramsey NJ, Timothy Nerney and his wife Felicia, Woodbridge, NJ, Sisters and Brother-in-laws: Linda and William Meredith, Bloomingburg, NY, Kathy and Tommy Jeleniewicz, Colonia, NJ, John and Leslie Melfi, West Keansburg, NJ, Nieces: Ryan Cassidy and husband Brian, Vanessa and Melissa Guertin, Nephews: Patrick, Justin, Brian, Christopher, Shaun, Matthew, and Timothy Nerney and Grand-Niece Mairead Cassidy, cousins, extended family and friends.

The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful medical care provided by Dr. Dennis Fitzgerald and staff, Shrewsbury, Dr. Mecide Gharibo, the nurses and staff of the Medical Critical Care Unit at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital. Thank you for your professionalism, empathy and tremendous care that you provided for our girl, Theresa! We will forever be grateful!
