Thomas John Gaffney

Thomas John Gaffney of Forked River died Wednesday January 23, 2013 at Community Medical Center, Toms River, NJ. He was born in Jersey City and was the son of Gertrude Armstrong and Lawrence Gaffney. He was lovingly raised by his step-father John B Lannon. Thomas enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1957 after graduating from Keyport High School. Mr. Gaffney was one of the original Jersey Central Power & Light workers at the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station in Forked River retiring in 1994. He later worked for Salem Nuclear Power Plant for five years after his retirement. Thomas is predeceased by his three brothers Robert, William and Lawrence.

Surviving is his wife of 51 years Rosalie Gaffney, his children Maureen Dressler and her husband Edward, Thomas Gaffney, Jr, and his wife Mary and Jennifer Lasko and her husband Thomas; five grandchildren Daria and Daniel Dressler, Ryan and Thomas Lasko and Thomas Patrick Gaffney; his brother James Gaffney and his three sisters Anne Germain, Rosemary Beales and Trudy Lannon and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday 2-4 & 7-9 at the Layton's Home For Funerals, 250 Lacey Rd., Forked River, NJ. Relatives and friends may arrive at the funeral home Tuesday morning at 930 am. A 10 30 am funeral mass will be celebrated at the Church of Saint Pius X, Forked River, NJ. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Toms River, NJ.
