Walter A. Kane, aged 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Island Heights on Wednesday, Feb, 22, 2012. Born in Ashley, PA, in 1929, he was the son of Walter and Catherine (Delmore) Kane. Walter graduated from St. Leo High School in 1947 and the University of Notre Dame (magna cum laude) in 1952. He was commissioned as an officer in the United States Coast Guard and served as a Lieutenant on the Coast Guard Cutter Sorrel during the Korean War. After leaving military service, he worked for the Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania, eventually retiring as District Plant Superintendent. He then served as Director of Religious Education at the St. Mary of the Lakes School in Medford, NJ, and volunteered at the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus.
Walter is survived by his children, Shannon Kane Rosser (Evan) of Richmond, VA, Linda Ram Kohut (John) of Long Branch, NJ, John Patrick Kane (Heidi) of Thousand Oaks, CA, Kevin Michael Kane (Beth) of Island Heights, NJ, Kelly Ram Mooz (John) of Houston, TX, Mary Kathleen Ram (Linda) of Tustin, CA, Patricia Ram Wurst of West Deptford, NJ and Michael Philip Ram (Ellen) of Medford Lakes, NJ. Walter's brother, John P. Kane, of Charlotte, NC survives him, as well as many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other beloved family.
Family and friends are invited to help celebrate his life at a memorial Mass on Saturday, March 3, 2012, at 11:00a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Toms River, NJ. A private internment in Wilkes-Barre, PA, will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Holy Redeemer Hospice, 1228 Rt. 37 West, Toms River, NJ 08755.
