Walter Scutro, 98, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at Southern Ocean Center in Manahawkin. Born and raised in Elizabeth, Walter was an Army veteran of WWII. After graduating from McAllister School of Embalming, he owned and operated Scutro Funeral Home for over 35 years. He was a member of Crestlin Boys Club since 1936, Knights of Columbus, National Funeral Directors Association, and served as secretary of Essex and Union County District of NJ State Funeral Directors from 1967-1974. He moved to Brick in 1977 and served as an usher at Epiphany Church for many years. Walter's great jokes and hardy laugh, that put a smile on so many faces, will truly be missed by all. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 71 years, Elsie (Jauch) Scutro in 2013. He is survived by his loving family, daughter Barbara Ferriol; son, Thomas and wife Patricia; four grandchildren, Thomas Jr., Shanon Quetel, Melissa Fastow, and Kimberly Sterling, and 11 great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23 at Weatherhead Young Funeral Home, 885 Mantoloking Road, Brick.
