Wilbur J. "Jake" Estelle, 81, of Wall, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at Geraldine Thompson Care Center, Allenwood. Jake was born and raised in Farmingdale. He was a United States Marine veteran of the Korean War. After his military service Jake worked for Wardell Dairy and then opened his own barber shop first in Hamilton (Neptune) and then Wall Township. Jake moved to Florida for a short time and was a barber for an army base in Lake Worth. When Jake returned to New Jersey he became a police officer for Wall Township for 3 years. After the police department, Jake worked for Signal Light, Neptune and Cibe Geigy, Toms River and then a security guard for Geraldine Thompson, Allenwood. He was an exempt firefighter for Glendola Fire Company for over 50 years, he loved country western music, playing the banjo and spending time every Saturday at Albert Hall, Waretown. Jake was an avid runner and a member of the Jersey Shore Running Club.
Jake was predeceased by his parents Wilbur and Elsie Estelle; a stepdad Chester "Chet" Radowski. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Betty (Pyle) Estelle of Wall; two sons Richard Estelle and his wife Lynn of Eatontown and James Estelle of Spring Lake Heights; 2 daughters and their spouses Cheryl and Robert Hendrickson and Eileen and Thomas O'Hara all of Wall. Jake is also survived by 6 grandchildren Abby, Richard, Lisa, Amanda, Nicole and Robert; 5 great grandchildren Alyssa, Justice, Kayleigh, Samantha and Kelsey; a sister Lucy Case of Carlisle, PA and a former daughter-in-law Betty L. Estelle.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday September 7 from 1-4 pm at Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan. Funeral service to be held Saturday September 7 at 3 pm here at the funeral home. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Foundation of America 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th Fl. New York, NY 10001.
