AGE: 67 • Lakewood

William Bernard Slowey, 67, of Lakewood, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 15, after a long and courageous battle with Melanoma. Bill was born in Brooklyn, NY, and grew up in Avon and Neptune, NJ. Over the years, he resided in Point Pleasant, Manasquan, and also spent twenty years in Scottsdale, AZ, before returning to New Jersey last year. After graduating from Neptune High School in 1964, he served for two years in the U.S.Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS America, which was commissioned throughout Europe. He worked in various capacities for Ocean County National Bank/Summit Bancorporation from 1969 to 1992. He was a past President of Monmouth County Bankers Association and the Spring Lake-Brielle Rotary Club. In 1992, he retired from banking and began a career in sales with Avada Hearing Centers in Scottsdale, AZ, which lasted until his retirement and return to New Jersey.

Bill is predeceased by his parents, Dorothy Littman Slowey and John Christopher Slowey, a sister Joan Currello, and a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy Marilyn (Pat) Bianco and Al Bianco. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Lynn Cameron Slowey, his first wife and the mother of his children, Mary Jane Fendl, his son and daughter-in-law, William Bernard Slowey, Jr. and Allison Slowey, his daughters and sons-in-law, Deirdre and Douglas Picadio, and Meghan and Michael Buczkowski, his brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Marianne Slowey, Robert and Karla Slowey, Dennis and Margaret Slowey, Carole Meseroll, Stacey Cameron and Jill Cameron, as well as several wonderful nieces and nephews. Most special of all, he is survived by those who called him PopPop, his precious grandchildren Zachary, Jacob and Emma Slowey, Aidan, Aoife, Declan and Orla Picadio, and Tessa, Jules and Cole Buczkowski.

Visitation will take place at O'Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick on Tuesday, June 18, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. A memorial mass will be held at St. Martha's Church, 3800 Herbertsville Road, Point Pleasant, on Wednesday, June 19, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Bill's memory ( For further information or to send condolences, please visit
