William J. Duffy Jr.

AGE: 91 • Interlaken

William J. Duffy Jr., 91, of Interlaken, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by the entire family August 13, 2014. Born in Hoboken, October 21, 1922, Bill was raised in Spring Lake. He graduated from De LA Salle High School, New York City and Georgetown University and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. In 1948, Bill married his wife of 66 years, Jean Murphy Duffy.

Bill was a principal of Duffy, Inc., a designing and planning firm in Manhattan. His long list of clients included New England Telephone Co, AT&T and the states of Michigan, New York and New Jersey. Over a period of 20 years, Bill was the Police Commissioner of Interlaken, member of the Interlaken Town Council and also served as Mayor of Interlaken. He was a member of Deal Golf and Country Club for 60 years and a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Deal.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, Rose and William J. Duffy Sr. and his nine brothers and sisters. He is survived by his loving wife, Jean; his sons, Bill and his wife, Barbara of Sea Girt and their children, Billy and his wife, Suzanne, Jonathan and his wife, Kim, Joseph and Lauren; Michael and his wife, Laurie of West End and their daughter, Leigh Michelle and her partner, Paul Robinson; John and his wife, Patricia of Oakhurst and their children, Meghan and her husband Joseph Youngs, Kaitlin and Morgan and four great-grandchildren, Addison, Reagan, Avery and Parker.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17 in Buckley Funeral Home, 509 Second Ave., Asbury Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18 in St. Mary's Church, Richmond Avenue, Deal. Interment will follow in St. Catharine's Cemetery, Sea Girt.
