William T. "Bill" Hoffmann, Sr., 89, of Shark River Hills, went safely home to Eternal Peace to join his eternal soul mate and loving wife of over 49 years, Margaret L., his daughter Patricia and his son Fred. Bill served in the U.S. Army in General Patton's 3rd Army 48 AAAA Division as a Chaplains Assistant 405. He saw combat on Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes Rhineland and Central Europe. His military decorations include the American Theater Ribbon, the European African Middle Eastern Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal and special gratification medal for the liberation of France. William worked as a Civil Engineer in the Building Trades then for the NJ DOT as a bridge and road inspector before retiring in 1987. He was a communicant of Holy Innocents Church in Neptune where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and the SR Club. Bill was a Lifetime Exempt Volunteer Firefighter in Shark River Hills as well as an active member of the Neptune Senior Club, a Meals on Wheels volunteer, a member of the American Legion Post #346 in Neptune and was an avid bowler. Bill was happiest with his family and loved traveling, Atlantic City and counting money.
Survived to cherish his memory is his daughter, Maggie; his son, Bill Jr.; his grandchildren, Sarah, Brandon, Jase, Josh, Ebonie, Sunshine; and his loyal companion, Nubbz, along with a host of dear family, friends and neighbors.
A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013 at the Ely Funeral Home, Neptune. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2013 at Holy Innocents Church, Neptune, followed by the interment in the B.G. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown.
