William "Bill" Ryan, 68, of Neptune City passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 4, 2014 surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Bill loved all of his friends and family and lived his life for everyone else. Bill began his career with the Monmouth County Sherriff's Department in 1974 first as a corrections officer and then with promotional test he began his career as one of Monmouth County's first Sheriff's Officers. He was a member of PBA 314. Bill was a volunteer fireman for the West Keansburg Fire Company. He served as a coach, volunteer and president of the Neptune City Bradley Beach Little League for 19 years. Bill was a member of the Neptune City Alliance to Prevent Alcohol and Drug Abuse. Bill was also a member of the Neptune City Day Committee. Bill will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. His quick wit and sense of humor lit up the room. He planned his days around the Yankees and Giants, and adored his two Boston Terriers Kyleigh and Bentley.
Bill was predeceased by his mother, Helen and father, James of Green Point Brooklyn. He is also predeceased by his brothers, Edward Ryan of Queens, NY, James Jr. of Brooklyn, NY, and his sister, Colleen Ryan of Keansburg, NJ. He will be very sorely missed by his loving wife, Betty Ryan; his son, Shawn who is living at home and son, Joseph of Asbury Park, NJ. He will also be greatly missed by his sisters, Marilyn Chaffin of Barnegat, and Patricia Emery and brother-in-law, Frank Emery of West Keansburg, NJ and many nieces and nephews. He was affectionately called Pop-pop by his great nephews, Caden, Cole and Nicky.
The viewing will be Monday, June 9th, 2-4 PM and 6-9 PM at Ely Funeral Home, 3316 Hwy 33, Neptune. The funeral mass will be Tuesday, June 10th, 11 AM at St. Elizabeth's Church, 424 Lincoln Ave. Avon, with Burial to follow at St. Ann's Cemetery, Wall Twp. In lieu of flowers donations to The
