Conley Thrasher, 89 of Surprise, AZ passed away April 11, 2014. Conley was born September 9, 1924 in Lomita, CA to S.A. and Lida Marie Thrasher. Conley and his family moved to Tolleson, AZ in 1930. Conley was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1943-1945. Following his military service he returned to Arizona and using the G.I Bill enrolled at Arizona State University. While attending college Conley met the love of his life, Maxine Long while working in her father's store Long's Cash Grocery. Conley and Maxine married in 1952 and he graduated ASU that same year. Conley and Maxine moved to Tolleson and purchased his father's store Thrasher's West End Store. This store became the family home for the next 15 years. It was a home full of love and laughter. Conley is survived by his wife Maxine and 3 children Butch, Denny (Leigh Anne), and Janet Crow (Ken) and 2 Grandsons, Matt Thrasher and Drew Crow (Jackie). Conley had a successful second career as a school teacher for Avondale Junior High from 1968-1988. Following his retirement he often joked he would love to work if he could find a "position". Thankfully for him and his family the "position" he secured was that of a loving husband, devoted father, doting granddad, and faithful Christian! Conley loved all sports but he especially loved everything about ASU sports. It did not matter what sport it was as long as it was the ASU Sun Devils! He also followed high school sports especially Tolleson Union High School. Conley loved life and everyone he met. He always was interested in others and even the day he was admitted to the hospital he managed to bring smiles to the faces of those who were there to help him. Conley loved their cabin in Flagstaff and was able to enjoy 29 summers their with Maxine and was able to make one last visit in August 2013 and see old friends and share memmories. Conley loved his extended family. He is survived by Bill Thrasher (Beverly), and Norma Slaughter (Bob). His brother Donald (Elaine) and sister Doris (Alvin) preceded him in death. Conley loved his friends at Vista de La Montana Independent Retirement community where he and Maxine have live for 3 years as well as his friends at the Community Church at Sun Village. The family would like to thank all his friends who have blessed his life as well as Maxine's life for many years. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 10:00am at the Community Church at Sun Village., 14300 Bell Road Surprise, AZ 85374. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the following church or charity of your choosing, Community Church at Sun Village, 17308 N. Sun Village Parkway, Suite H, Surprise, AZ 85374. He will be buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
