Kilpatrick, B.J.
86, of Scottsdale, passed away April 18, 2013. Born October 30, 1926 in Rogers, Texas, to Edna and Andy Chesley Kilpatrick, B.J. retired as a Lt. Col. from the United States Air Force in 1971. As a command pilot, he flew a wide variety of aircraft ranging from B29's and KC 97's to C141's and served more than 27 years in the United States Air Force. During the Vietnam War, among other duties, B.J. flew Medevac bringing our wounded and deceased soldiers back home to their families. His many awards and medals include the Vietnam Service Medal 1 Bronze Star, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal and 5 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters. In 1949 while stationed in Cheyenne, WY he met his wife Pat on a blind date, they married 3 months later. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 63 years, Pat; two daughters Maureen and Trish and their husbands Don and Sean, grandchildren Nicole, Samantha, Erin, James and preceded in death by granddaughter Dawn. He also leaves behind six great grandchildren and sisters LaNelle Mahan and Ann Cloessner and their husbands Everett and Brit and preceded in death by 3 brothers and a sister. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 22nd at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 5045 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix. Military honors and final prayers will follow at St. Francis Cemetery. A reception will be provided at church immediately following the service at the cemetery.
