Gilbert, Bettylee
77, Born in Phoenix, Az on May 6, 1935, passed away on April 6, 2013, after a long courageous battle with cancer. BettyLee grew up in Glendale, Az and attended Glendale High School. She was an accomplished athlete, winning state championships in Badminton, Tennis and Softball. She also played for a traveling Elite Softball team the "Glendale Sweethearts" and won multiple championships around the United States. Upon receiving a scholarship to Arizona State University, she continued her illustrious athletic career in Tennis and Badminton. After graduation, she married her college sweetheart and began her career teaching Physical Education at Sunnyslope Elementary. There she coached countless Girls Softball and Basketball teams, winning state and Regional Championships. After retirement Bettylee settled first in Pinetop, Az, then in Roosevelt, Az, where she found her second Love working with Gila County Search and Rescue. She became a Lieutenant and helped out with the Mobile Command Center and countless other search and rescue activities. She was preceded in death by her Husband Ford Van Tuyl Gilbert. She is survived by her Brother Robert Harkey and Sister in Law Jane Harkey. Son's: Robert Gilbert & William Gilbert, Daughters -in- law Linda Gilbert and Kelly Gilbert, Grandsons: Brian, Jake, Shaun & Blake and Granddaughters: Jaime & Tiffany. Niece: Tammy Morrison and her Husband Glenn and family. Nephews: Jack & Bill Fanning and their family. Along with William Goings whom Bettylee considered her son, his wife Jill and their family.
