Retired USAF TSgt. Charles Ray Coker, Sr., 80 years old, passed away on July 9, 2014 at his home in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born on November 21, 1933 in Birmingham, Alabama to Homer L. and Sarah Dorothy Coker. Ray grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. After high school he joined the US Air Force in October 1951 as a Radio Operator. He served for 20 years, 10 months and 28 days, during which time he rose to the rank of Technical Sergeant. He was decorated with various medals and letters of commendation during his tenure with the Air Force. He traveled extensively and worked in Laon, France, Ramstein, Germany, Thailand and Greenland. After retirement, Ray traveled to Micronesia, Australia, Iwo Jima, Bali and Europe. He then moved to Phoenix where he resided until the day he died. Ray follows the passing of all his siblings and parents, he is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Coker) McMullen of Mobile, Alabama and her husband Wayne with grandsons Merlin, Catalin and Lance Perlman of Atlanta, Georgia, with wife Gina and great-grandsons Hunter and Gavin; his son, Charles Ray Coker, Jr. Of Hardinsburg, Kentucky, and his wife Roxanna, granddaughter Reba and grandson Mark; and he is remembered by his beloved ex-wife Johanna Ybanez Coker. Arrangements for private cremation and services are provided by Preston Funeral Home. A memorial will be held at the American Legion, Post 75, at 10625 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix on Thursday, July 17th at 8pm.
