David Harold Holmes, 87, of Sun City
West, AZ, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 23 surrounded by his five children. He was born on August 29, 1926 in Highland Park, Michigan to Harold Holmes and Edith Elsner Holmes. He was married for fifty-three years to Suzanne Therese Schwinn who preceded him in death in 2003. Dave and Suzanne have five children, David (Linda) Holmes, Mary Holmes, Peter (Mary Kay) Holmes, JK Holmes and Anne Ka'anoi. They also have nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Dave lived in Sun CIty West for the last twenty years and in Kailua, Hawai'i for thirty-eight years prior to that where he worked as a sales manager for Honolulu Iron Works. Dave holds two bachelor's degrees in electrical and industrial engineering from the University of Washington, where he and his wife Sue lived for five years when first married. He is remembered for a sharp wit and love of learning, good sense of humor, love of family and great generosity. Dave enjoyed golfing, reading, traveling, visiting museums and historical monuments. He was an avid movie buff, hosting weekly movies nights in his home with friends and neighbors. He was a serious game player and has recently enjoyed playing games with family members on his iPad. David enjoyed good health and was of sound mind until he suffered a stroke just nine days before his passing. A prayer service will be held on Saturday, October 26 at 10:00 am at Camino del Sol Funeral Chapel in Sun City West.
