Dean Pershing Goodnight passed away in Fountain Hills, Arizona on October 21, 2013. He was born in Barnsville, Ohio on May 31, 1918. Dean was awarded a Bronze Star for his service in World War II. He was the stenographer for Colonel George W. Read, Jr. in General Patton's 6th Armored Division. They landed on Utah Beach July 22,1944. Dean kept the daily notes documenting the Squadron's march through France into Bastogne in December of 1944 and then through Germany. His Squadron was part of the liberation of Buchenwald Concentration Camp, April 1945. Dean worked for Motorola in Scottsdale for many years. After retiring, he was a volunteer at Scottsdale Healthcare on Osborne for 25 years. He was an active member of the Scottsdale United Methodist Church. He lived in Scottsdale, Arizona over forty years, sharing his home on Sage with Bill Walters. After fracturing his hip in 2010, Dean lived at Fountain View Village Assisted Living until his death. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. A memorial is scheduled for Friday, November 15, 2013, 10 a.m. at Green Acres Cemetery, 401 North Hayden Road, Scottsdale, Arizona.
