80, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away on September 06, 2013. Donald Francis Mills, longtime Engineer of Station 25, departed this Earth for a better life on September 6, 2013 after a lingering illness. He was born in Cambridge, MA., son of a lifelong firefighter, Francis Howard Mills. The family had lived in the Cambridge-Belmont area since Don's great-grandfather, William Mills, arrived from Ireland in 1850. He served in the Korean War, as a firefighter at Luke AFB, and more than four decades with the Phoenix Fire Dept. He married his first wife, Juanita May Imler in 1955 at St. Mary's Basilica. They had two daughters. The older, Cynthia Ann, died prematurely in a pedestrian hit-and-run accident in California in 2009. Through her, Don had six grandchildren- David, Eric, Dustin, Amanda, Brittany, and Christa as well as 3 great-grandchildren. Don's surviving and younger daughter, Kathleen Marie is married to William Roy Hearter, MD. They have 3 children- Kristina (Bell), William and Heidi. Don wasa great-grandfather to Kristina's 3 children. In later years Don had become reconciled with his first wife. Don was preceded in
death by his second wife, Charlotte Rockyvich, in 2006, through whom he inherited 3 Stepchildren- Susan, Chuck, and Tina. Services sponsored by the PFD will be on Friday, September 13th, 9:30 AM at All Saints Episcopal Church, 6300 N. Central Ave., Phoenix.
