Koonce, Donald Ray (Don), of Apache Junction, Arizona, passed away on January 7, 2013. Don was born July 5, 1925 in Albion, Illinois. Don served in the United States Army in the Asiatic Pacific with the 7th Infantry Division, in the 1st Army Air Force Depot on Okinawa, and Japan and Germany from 1943 to 1946, becoming a Corporal, earning an American Theater Ribbon, an Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with two (2) Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal, a Victory Medal, a Combat Infantryman Badge, an Army Occupation Medal (Germany & Japan) and a Philippine Liberation with one Bronze Service Star. Don re-enlisted in the Army and served as a Corporal from 1948 to 1952. Don worked as a commercial photographer at A G S & R in Fort Wayne, Indiana until 1978 and in the photography department at Arizona State University and Mesa Community College. Don is survived by one sister, Dorothea Lebrecht (IN), two sons, Daniel Koonce (IN), David Koonce (IN), one daughter, Sondra Powell (AZ) three stepdaughters, Gabriella Rousseau (AZ), Marianne Richards (WA), Rita Smith (IN) and one stepson, Leslie Gondos (CA), twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grand-children. Private graveside services are to be held at Mountain View Funeral Home, 7900 E Main St, Mesa AZ at 1:00 pm on January 18, 2013.
