Sherrill, Donald Milton
Donald Milton Sherrill, 78, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on January 14, 2014. Don was born June 15, 1935 in Evanston, Illinois to William Fox Sherrill and Besse Lucille Baymiller Sherrill. He grew up in Wilmette, attended New Trier High School in Winnetka through his junior year, after which he and his mother moved to Phoenix where he graduated in 1953 from North Phoenix High School. In 1953, Don and his mother were founding members of Orangewood Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Arizona State University in 1959, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Prior to his retirement Don was President and Chief Executive Officer of SunWest Federal Credit Union, a $100 million+ credit union in 1990. He served on the board of directors and as president of both the International Telephone Credit Union Association and the Western Association of Telephone Credit Unions. In addition, he was active with the Arizona Credit Union League, National Association of Federal Credit Unions, and Rotary International. Just prior to his retirement he was recognized by more than 1200 of his peers nationwide as one of the 100 most admired credit union CEOs. After his retirement, Don had a successful second career in residential real estate sales. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William Neal Sherrill. Don is survived by his wife of 54 years, Donna; daughter Diane Ogle and her husband Jack; son Ben; exchange student son for a year, Erling Barth of Oslo, Norway; grandchildren Sarah Ogle Fraticelli and her husband Erik; Amanda Ogle Liston and her husband Chad; Andrew Ogle; Rachel Ogle; Adrian Jesse Sherrill-Langlois; great grandsons Jacob Morris, Austin and Joshua Fraticelli, Atreyu and Cassian Liston; sister-in-law Marjorie Lamb Sherrill of Lexington, Virginia; brother-in-law James Patrick and his wife Doris, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 1:00 P.M. at Camelback Bible Church, 3900 East Stanford Drive, Paradise Valley, AZ 85253.
