Reverend
Eugene A. Beyer

of Scottsdale died June 16, 2014 in the presence of his loving family. The Memorial service will be 11:00 am Wednesday June 25th, at Desert Foothills Lutheran Church, 29305 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the Musical Ministries of Desert Foothills Lutheran Church. Pastor Beyer was born to Reverend Arthur & Viola Beyer May 4, 1929 in Hillsdale Michigan. Ordained in 1954 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Lincoln Park, Michigan, he began his service as the Assistant Pastor to his father. On June 18, 1955 he married the love of his life Linda Schumaker and together they began a family, 4 children born in Michigan, and 1 in Phoenix. Upon the passing in 1956 of his father, Eugene became Senior Pastor at Calvary Lutheran Church. Pastor Beyer would go on to be chosen Lincoln Park's "Young Man of the Year" and was also President of the local Michigan Rotary Club.

In January of 1968 Pastor Beyer accepted the call to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church moving his young family to Phoenix, Arizona. The move to Phoenix would invigorate his vision of the area's potential and allow him to help build the Lutheran foundation in what was to become a large metropolitan area. After beginning his service at Mount Calvary he went on to create and build the congregations of Scottsdale Shepard of the Desert Lutheran Church, and Scottsdale Desert Foothills Lutheran Church. Nothing exemplified the passion to his faith and Lord more than the opportunity to build a congregation from the ground up.

Pastor Beyer served in many capacities and ministries over his career, some of those being a Circuit Counselor, serving on the District Board of Directors, as well as a Regional Vice President for Arizona, Nevada, and Palm Springs. Upon his retirement he joined Capital Funding Services, a partner with Lutheran Church Extension Fund, continuing his lifelong calling and helping others to build and grow Lutheran congregations all over the country.

Eugene is survived by his wife of 59 years Linda, his children Ellyce (Eddie) Shea, Paul (Christi), Eugene, Erick, and Michael Beyer, along with his grandchildren Garrett, Makaira, and Marshall Beyer. We will miss his guidance and love every day. As testament to his true calling we are all fisherman and keepers
of the life lessons he taught us all - never forgetting who we are.
