Eugene H. Ast, 87, of Scottsdale, Arizona, died September 10, 2013. Eugene was born on May 7, 1926 in Jersey City, New Jersey to John Ast and Lillian Kane. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jeanne; his daughter, Marianne Ast of Phoenix, AZ; his son Paul Ast and daughter-in-law, Terri Ast of Schaumburg, IL; his daughter, Jeanmarie McIntyre of Blue Ridge, VA. and his "Arizona daughters" Rose Sklodowski and Linda Ramquist. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and his two sisters, Lillian Zuppa of West Palm Beach, FL and Dorothy Rutkowski of Phoenixville, PA. Eugene was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who was always there for his family. Eugene served in the Navy during WWII and was stationed in Falmouth, England. He served as a machinist, motor mechanic and engineman working on LSTs to prepare for D-Day. He worked over 30 years in the printing and paper industry. Eugene was a member of the Holy Name Society in New Jersey from 1940-1964, joining with his father as a teenager. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1964 starting in Illinois and then in Arizona and was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus Council #10050 at the Community of the Blessed Sacrament in Scottsdale, AZ. The seed for Eugene's faith was planted as a child as he accompanied his mother to the Novena to the Sacred Heart at St. Paul's Church in Jersey City, New Jersey. His faith was strong throughout his life and it was a great source of strength to him and his family. Eugene found comfort and peace in his pastor, Father Pat Robinson and his compassionate and caring church family at the Community of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Scottsdale, AZ. Eugene has gone home to the Lord and will be missed by his family and friends. He is wished a safe and peaceful journey by his wife, his children, his grandchildren and his friends. God rest his soul. Eugene's wake will be held on Friday, September 20, 2013 from 5-8 pm with the Rosary at 7 pm at Hansen's Desert Hills Mortuary located at 6500 E. Bell Rd. Scottsdale, AZ 85254. Eugene's funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 12 noon at the Community of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church located at 11300 N. 64th St. Scottsdale, AZ 85254. A private interment will be held at George Washington Park Memorial Cemetery in Paramus, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to
