85, Scottsdale AZ. died peacefully on January 14 ,2013 at the Sherman Hospice House in Phoenix, Arizona surrounded by his loving family. Those who knew George loved him for his sense of humor,his kindness and his easy going demeanor .
George was born on May 6, 1927 in Davenport, IA. He graduated from St. John's Military Academy and earned a degree in business from Iowa State University. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. George served in the Navy during WWII and again in the Army during the Korean War. George worked in the trucking industry and was president of Dohrn Transfer Co, a family business. He served on the National board of the Trucking industry He was on the Executive committee of the Illinois State Chamber of Commerce. After selling his company he worked as a Financial Advisor
He was active in the Episcopal Church. He was Senior Warden of the Vestry of Trinity Cathedral in Davenport Iowa and taught ninth grade Sunday school . He was a member of Good Shepard of the hills in Cave Creek Arizona .
George was a generous volunteer in his community. He served on many boards including The Salvation Army, St. Luke's Hospital. Davenport Family YMCA,First National bank of Rock Island Illinios, Marycrest college and was president of the Outing Club.
An avid golfer, George was president of Davenport Country Club . He was a member of Crow Valley Golf club in Davenport and a Member of Troon Country Club in Scottsdale Arizona. He loved the out of doors and enjoyed skiing with his family and hunting and fishing and bike riding with his good friends.
George was a family man and never missed a family event. He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn to whom he had been married to for 59 years ;his 4 children ; Jim (Gina), Jeff (Terry), Scott (Tina) and Nancy; 5 grandchildren, Tom, Kara, Bobby (Julienne), John and Steven. and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Lois Gabrilson
A Celebration of life service will be held February 9, 11:00 am at Good Shepherd of the Hills , Cave Creek Arizona.
In lieu of fowers, Memorials can be made to Good Shepherd of the Hills Cave Creek,
