Dempsey, George Mason
77, of Phoenix, AZ entered eternal life on March 5th, 2013.
George was born in New York City on May 27th, 1935 to Judson and Claire Dempsey.
He was raised in Petersburg, Virginia, attending the University of Virginia, and entered the military (Army), serving in Germany during the Korean War. George worked for American Airlines for 10 years in New York City, and moved with his family to Phoenix in 1963. He worked for the Easter Seal Society for many years as a strong supporter of disabled children and adults, and was an active member of the Fiesta Bowl Game Day Operations committee for 35 years, and a recipient of the Frank Snell Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009. George served on the boards of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Samaritan Health System and Family Service Agency. He was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his wife of 23 years, Gretchen Siekmann Dempsey, children Christine (Dave) Arlaud, Gregory Dempsey, and brother Bill Loughran (Micki) and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a worship service/celebration of life at the North Phoenix Baptist Church Chapel on March 16th at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Phoenix Children's Hospital or the Arizona Humane Society.
Forever in our hearts, we will always be thankful for George's huge and compassionate heart, strong Christian faith, and deep loyalty to his family and many friends.
