Himes, Herbert "Bud"
flew west peacefully Friday, March 21, 2014. Bud was born July 23, 1925 on the family farm outside Crawfordsville, Indiana to Lester and Zola Himes, the fourth of five children. He graduated from Waveland High School in 1943 and joined the Army Air Corps, serving as a flight engineer on the B-29 aircraft. After separating in 1946, he attended Purdue University, joined the Kappa Sigma fraternity, and graduated in 1950 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He returned to service after graduation, completed flight school, and flew the F-86 fighter for the United States Air Force. During this time he met and married his beautiful wife Nancy (nee Beery), a stewardess with United Airlines. Bud left the service and joined United Airlines in 1953, flying the DC-6, B-727, and DC-10 aircraft over a 32-year career based in Seattle and Chicago. He retired in 1985, moving to Scottsdale, Arizona where he and Nancy enjoyed the golden years of their 54-year marriage. Bud was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the El Zaribah Shrine. Bud is survived by his sister Barbara (Robert) Radford, son Steven (Esther) Himes, and daughters Susan Himes and Sally (Greg) Henderson, along with grandchildren Anais, Stefani, Scott, Shelby, Shayne, Lauryn, and Kelly. Welcoming Bud home are his parents, brother Herman "Joe", sisters Marjorie and Kathryn, wife Nancy, and dear son Jim. A private family service and inurnment will be held. Memorials may be made to the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation.
