Cooper, Janet Belle
81, most recently of Mesa, AZ, passed away January 10, 2014, from complications following heart surgery. Janet was born in Silver City, NM, on July 24, 1932, to John and Mamie Robertson, who preceded her in death, along with her husband, Harley Cooper, and her sister, Rosemary Lawson. Her family had moved to Morenci, AZ where she attended high school and met and married her high-school sweetheart, and love-of-her-life, Harley Gene Cooper. They attended ASU together, and later made their home in Tempe. Harley was a respected insurance sales associate with Mutual of Omaha, and his success afforded them the opportunity to travel with the company, to many cities in the US and overseas. Janet loved the travel and made many friends and memories along the way. Later, when their children were grown, they moved to Pinetop, AZ, and were known for their legendary "Celebration of Life" barbeques. Janet was a gracious and generous hostess who welcomed everyone into her home. In 1998, Janet and Harley fulfilled a lifelong dream and purchased a cattle ranch just outside of Wickenburg, AZ. Janet always loved the beautiful desert landscape, and the peace and tranquility of the ranch. But in 2006, due to their failing health, they moved to Chandler, where they remained until Harley's death in 2009. Janet then moved to Mesa with her daughter. Janet was an amazing lady. She was proud to be a dedicated homemaker, and Harley always said that while he made the living, she made the living worthwhile. She was a 43-year breast cancer survivor; enjoyed crossword puzzles, books and movies; was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, whose love of family was most important of all. She never hesitated to put others needs ahead of her own. She was loved and appreciated by all those fortunate enough to know her. She is survived by her brother, John Robertson (Lorraine) of Pinetop, AZ, her daughters, Jacque Cooper, Jo Cooper and Lee Smith (Mark); her grandchildren, Camela, Travis, Rebecca (Gannon), Aaron (Michelle), Tom (Orlenia), Scott, Leland (Kelly), Clayton (Erica) and Clint; and her great-grandchildren, Chloe, Christian, Tanner, Aubrey, Silas, Taylor, Ethan, Emmett, and many nieces and nephews. She was called by the Lord, and although greatly missed, we are blessed to carry on her many traditions and cherished memory. A funeral mass celebrating her life will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 230 W. Galveston St., Chandler, AZ 85225, on Monday, January 27th, 2014 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the , , or the Arizona Humane Society.
