Age 91, died August 2, 2014 in Phoenix, Arizona. Born in Binghamton, New York in 1922, he moved to Phoenix in 1937 where he graduated from Phoenix Union High School, Phoenix Junior College and attended Northwestern University in Chicago. He entered the U.S. Army in March of 1943 and served in combat with the 83rd Infantry Division. Returning home he devoted the next 50 years of his life in the insurance industry. He was President and Chairman of the Board of Valley National Insurance Company for 17 years and among his many accomplishments was Founding President of CPCU (a professional insurance association), President of the Arizona Association of Insurance Agents, Founder of the Arizona Insurance Agents Hall of Fame, becoming a member at age 65, and named by APS as the Arizona Insurance Broker for the Palo Verde Nuclear Plant. He has been Past President or Chairman of Phoenix Kiwanis Club, Y.M.C.A. of Phoenix and Valley of the Sun Chapters, Phoenix Executive Club, John C. Lincoln Hospital Foundation and also a past member of the Board of Directors for Phoenix Symphony Association, Pacific Homes, Goodwill Industries, Civic Center Management, Trunk & Tusk Club and First United Methodist Church. He was well known for his fundraising expertise for many of these organizations and in his later years, volunteered at the Desert Mission Food Bank. His favorite hobby was playing handball at the Y.M.C.A. Preceded in death by his parents and brother Victor, he is survived by his wife, Lila and daughter Linda. Private services have been held.
