Machac, Joseph
87, of Phoenix, AZ joined his daughter Linda in Heaven on March 18, 2014, her birthday. Joe was born in Wisconsin and, with his four brothers, helped support the family by hunting and fishing. At age 17, Joe joined the Marine Corps and was on Guam, Guadalcanal, and Iwo Jima. As a member of the Carpenter's Union, Joe worked on the construction of Glen Canyon Dam, Sky Harbor Airport, and airbases in Israel and Saudi Arabia. Joe loved the outdoors and was especially committed to the welfare of Arizona's desert bighorn sheep. He served as president of the Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society and helped build waterhole catchments and capture and relocate sheep to new habitat. Joe was also active with his neighborhood watch association, a life member of the NRA, and built and repaired guns. Joe loved Jesus and shared devotional time at the men's Saturday morning prayer breakfasts. Joe leaves his wife of 67 years, Harveta, son Jim (Cheryl), brothers Mike (Rita) and Paul, and sister Eva, 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 29, at 10:00 a.m. at Maryvale Nazarene Church, 3401 N. 51st Ave, Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Semper Fi Fund or the .
