Reed, Joseph McAlister
90. On the evening of Monday August 25, 2014, Joseph "Mac" Reed passed away peacefully. Joseph was born on August 5, 1924 in Logan, Utah. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Reta (McAlister) Reed. He is survived by his sister Reta Reed Kellis. He is also survived by his wife Ruth (Benson) Reed, his children: David (Marya), Rebecca Johnson (Carl), Stephen, Elizabeth McKay (Ernest), Mary Elwood (Rodney) along with 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Joseph was a lifelong resident of Mesa, AZ. He served in the US Army in France and Germany during World War II in the 100th "Century" Division. He then served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in England and Scotland. While completing his Master's in Education, he met and married his beloved wife Ruth in the Salt Lake Temple. They have been married for 62 years. He taught in the Phoenix Public School system close to 20 years as a High School Teacher at Phoenix Union and Phoenix East High Schools. He enjoyed Family History and Temple work serving along with his wife as a LDS Temple Worker and Family History Center consultant. Joseph was a devoted Husband and Father to his family and loved the Lord. Visitation is Friday August 29, 2014 from 6-8 PM at Meldrum Mortuary, 52 N. MacDonald, Mesa 85201. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 30, 2014, at 10:30 AM, preceded by a visitation at 9:30 AM at the LDS Chapel on 2152 E. Adobe, Mesa 85213.
