The Guest Book is expired.
LaVerna Voss Cartwright, age 99 years and 7 months, entered her heavenly home on June 18, 2014. She was born in Pittsburg, Kansas on November 18, 1914 and came to Arizona in 1921. She and her sister Valerie attended the one-room Wickenburg School where their mother, Harriet Voss, was a teacher. They later moved to Glendale and LaVerna attended and graduated from Glendale High School where she had played flute and piccolo in the band. She then attended Arizona State University and was a member of alpha delta pi sorority. After that, she worked at the Valley National Bank in Glendale. She married R. Jack Cartwright in 1939. She and Jack (a dairyman) attended the Glendale Church of Christ and were married for 71 years before his death in 2010. LaVerna had many wonderful friends and she and Jack enjoyed traveling to the Holy Land, touring the US in their motor home and staying in their cabin at Munds Park. However, she was always happiest when spending time with her family (who she was fiercely protective of). Her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy and there was nothing she wouldn't do for them. She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Jack Cartwright; mother, Harriet Voss Imes; step-father, Isaac Imes; sister, Valerie Voss Raper; and daughter, Jacque Kaetz. Her survivors are her daughter, Jan Burgholzer (Jim); grandchildren, Jeff Wishart (Kelly); Jennifer Harman (Stuart); great-grandchildren, Bailee, Jake, Kyra, Jackson, and Hayden who are 5th generation native Arizonans. She also has 3 nieces- Nancy, Linda and Shelli; 6 nephews- Leon, Bill, Ron, Fred, Jack, and Gordon and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. A family graveside celebration of LaVerna's life was held on June 25. Donations can be made in her memory to
