97, of Chandler, Arizona passed away on August 15, 2014 after a brief final illness. Laura was born on December 9, 1916, in Shelbyville, Illinois, to the late Julia and Edward Rothert. Laura was predeceased by her first husband, Thomas S. Moylan, and by her second husband, John F. Smith, and by their son, Edward Allen Smith. Her two siblings Ernest (Mary) Rothert and Lois (Charles) Pratt predeceased her. Laura moved to Tempe, AZ in 1978 from Riverside, Illinois and resided in Tempe until several months ago when she could no longer live alone and moved to Chandler, AZ. Laura worked as a secretary until she retired. After her retirement she continued working on a part-time basis at Arizona State University until 2005. She was a very independent women and set a wonderful example. She was an avid sports enthusiast. Laura had several dear friends who were her extended family including, LaDelle Toma, Kathy Bell-Walsberg, Edna Fink, Pat Arentz, Joy and Dan O'Connor, and Susana Lopez who provided the help Laura needed to be able to remain alone in her Tempe home. Laura is survived by her four daughters, Alice Margaret Dornan of Downers Grove, Illinois; Maureen Ellen Moylan of Fairfield, Connecticut; Patricia Ann Doell of Tinley Park, Illinois and Christine Lynn Smith and her husband, Raymond Chapman, of Las Vegas, Nevada. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She shared a very special relationship with her loving granddaughter, Dawn Dornan Valenzuela, of Mesa, AZ. The family plans a celebration for December 2014 and requests donations be made in honor of Laura to All Saints Newman Center, 230 East University, Tempe, AZ 85281.
